Texas Continues Record-Breaking Job Growth in April
According to a published article in the Washington Examiner, Texas has again broken its job growth records, with April marking another significant achievement for the state’s labor market. For the 37th month, Texas saw positive job growth adding 42,600 non-farm jobs. From April 2023 to April 2024, Texas added 306,000 jobs, the most of any state, showing the strength of its job market.
Governor Greg Abbott said this success is due to Texas’s strong workforce and good business climate. “Texas grew jobs at three times the rate of the U.S. in April because of our skilled workers and the best business environment in the nation,” Abbott said. He stressed the need for continued investment in education, infrastructure, and workforce development to keep growing and provide more opportunities for Texas families. In April, Texas reached a new high with 14,623,300 people employed, including the self-employed, and a civilian labor force of 15,226,800.

Key Industries Drive Texas Job Growth with Significant Gains in Private Education, Health Services, and Transportation
Furthermore, key industries contributing to this growth included private education and health services, which added 12,000 jobs; trade, transportation, and utilities, which added 9,800 new jobs; and professional and business services, which added 7,600 jobs. The Texas Workforce Commission noted that all areas in the state saw lower unemployment rates, with Midland having the lowest at 2.2%. TWC Commissioner Joe Esparza said that the addition of 42,600 jobs in April shows that the Texas economy is strong and that there is ongoing support for businesses looking to grow or start in the state.
