Black Women at Highest Risk, Missouri Ranked Most Dangerous State

The KSHB 41 I-Team has found that Missouri consistently ranks as the most dangerous state for Black women with high homicide rates. Despite promises from leaders to address gun violence in Kansas City, the problem has worsened over the past decade. Currently, Kansas City, Missouri is on track to match its deadliest year in 2020. While overall crime statistics are often reported advocates stress the need to focus on the disproportionate victimization of Black women.

Missouri Remains Most Dangerous State for Black Women

Advocates and affected families highlight the importance of raising awareness and demanding action. Data from the CDC confirms Missouri’s status as a perilous place for Black women. In 2021, it was the most dangerous state for them with similarly high rates in 2020 and 2019.
