While many parts of the country saw less violence from 2020 to 2022, Washington went the opposite way. According to FBI data, violent crime in Washington increased by 81.9%, going from 293.7 incidents per 100,000 people to 375.6 incidents. This rise has experts and authorities looking into what’s causing this concerning trend.

A study by the Simmrin Law Group used data from the FBI and NIBRS to check out crime in different states. They wanted to see how safe each state is. The results showed Washington is one of the most dangerous states in America. Despite its pretty landscapes and tech industry, it’s ranked the eighth-most dangerous state.

Washington State Grapples with High Theft and Kidnapping Rates, Emerging as One of America’s Most Dangerous States
The study looked at different crimes like assault, homicide, burglary, and vandalism. Washington stood out for having a lot of theft compared to other states. With 2133.6 thefts per 100,000 residents, there were 179,545 thefts reported in 2022. The study also showed a high number of kidnappings, with 16.3 per 100,000 residents in Washington.
