White House Set to Announce New Tariffs on Chinese Electric Cars and Clean Energy Goods
According to the Washington Examiner, the White House plans to announce new tariffs on goods from China, mainly focusing on electric cars and clean energy products, like solar panels and batteries. These new tariffs are expected to be revealed on Tuesday and could make it more expensive to buy these items from China. Currently, Chinese electric cars face 25% new tariffs but this might go up to 100%.
These new tariff changes are part of President Biden‘s efforts to support American industries and protect jobs. Some lawmakers want to increase new tariffs on Chinese cars due to worries about privacy. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen will try to get other countries to support these tariffs at a meeting of finance ministers from the G7 aiming to put more pressure on China.
