A 26-year-old man, Jose Antonio Ibarra and was formally charged with murder and kidnapping after allegedly killing a 22-year-old nursing student on the University of Georgia campus.

According to the report of True Crime Daily, Ibarra brutally attacked Laken Riley, a bright and dedicated student at Augusta University College of Nursing, with a rock and caused severe blunt-force trauma injuries. Riley’s friend had reported her missing on February 22 after she failed to return home from a morning run on the University of Georgia’s Intramural Fields. Campus police responded quickly and found Riley’s body unresponsive at the scene. Emergency medical personnel pronounced her dead at the scene. Investigators arrested Ibarra the next day and revealed that he had no prior connection to Riley, suggesting that it was a “crime of opportunity.”
