New Law Introduced by Senators Rosen and Cornyn Aims to Lower Medicine Costs for Elder Americans

Proposed Legislation Targets Lowering Medicine Costs for Elder Americans Nationwide

In a team effort to help elder Americans save money on medicine, Nevada Senator Jacky Rosen and Texas Senator John Cornyn introduced a new law. This law wants to fix how much elder Americans pay for medicine through Medicare. Elder Americans often have to pay based on a high list price instead of the real, lower cost. This makes it hard for them to afford their medicine, according to the report of Review Journal.

Senator Rosen said it’s important to make sure elder Americans can get their medicine without paying too much. This new law would change how we calculate how much elder Americans have to pay for medicine. It would make their payments based on the lower price that pharmacies and medicine companies agree on. This would help elder Americans in Nevada and all across the country. It shows that lawmakers care about elder Americans health and money problems.

Currently, elder Americans end up saying more because they have to pay based on a high list price. The new law wants to fix this by making them pay based on the real price that pharmacies and medicine companies agree on. This would make sure elder Americans don’t pay more than they need to for their medicine.

Angus Worthing, who is the president of a group that works on making medicine prices fair and praised the new law. He said it’s a big step forward in making sure elder Americans benefit from the deals made between pharmacies and medicine companies. This change would help elder Americans save money on their medicine.

Support Grows for New Law Aimed at Lowering Medicine Costs for Elder Americans

Many groups both national and in Nevada support the new law. They include Age Friendly Reno, Age and Dementia Friendly Winnemucca, Alliance for Aging Research and UnidosUS. They’re all behind the effort to help elder Americans pay less for medicine. This shows that many people care about making medicine affordable for elder Americans.

Another law passed in 2022 also helps elder Americans afford medicine. It limits how much they have to pay each year for certain expensive medicines. This means they won’t have to pay more than a certain amount for brand-name medicine and insulin each year. These laws together show that lawmakers are working to make medicine more affordable for elder Americans.
