Rapid City dubbed the “Gateway to the Black Hills,” may attract tourists but recent stats show it’s the riskiest place to live in South Dakota. With 673 violent crimes, including 108 rapes and 13 murders and 3,137 property crimes reported yearly caution is advised in this bustling city.
Chamberlain
Chamberlain is a cozy town by the Missouri River, has a dark side despite its rich history. With 16 violent crimes, including 3 rapes, and 76 property crimes reported annually it’s the second most dangerous spot in the state.
Pierre
Pierre is the state’s capital and seems charming with its historic buildings but it has a notable crime rate. With 128 violent crimes and 413 property crimes reported yearly it’s considered risky despite its small population.
Yankton
Yankton is a historic city by the Missouri River faces modern challenges. Reporting 83 violent crimes and 474 property crimes annually it ranks fourth in the state for its crime rate.
Sioux Falls
Sioux Falls, the largest city in South Dakota deals with its share of crime. With 1,120 violent crimes and 4,259 property crimes reported yearly it’s the fifth most violent place in the state.
