Navigating New Jersey‘s Riskiest Cities
According to Southwest Journal, New Jersey is famous for fun boardwalks and TV stars but it also has the riskiest cities. We made a list of the top five riskiest cities in New Jersey for 2024. We looked at how much crime happens in cities with at least 5,000 Americans. Some places have a lot of robberies, car thefts, and shootings. Not all parts of cities like Newark and Jersey City are unsafe though. Some are nice but you should check before moving. Even though New Jersey has lots of Americans not every place has the same problems. So, if you’re thinking of moving be careful and do some research.

Top 5 Riskiest Cities
Asbury Park
Asbury Park, near the Jersey Shore and part of the New York City area is the riskiest city in New Jersey. Its crime rate is three times higher than the state’s average, especially for violent crimes. In 2020 there was a 1 in 81 chance of getting hurt or attacked so it’s best to be careful even on its famous boardwalk.
Millville
Millville isn’t as famous as Camden but it still has dangers, especially with property crimes. It ranks fifth in the state for property crimes like theft and damage. Visitors to Millville’s parks should keep their belongings safe and their doors locked to avoid becoming one of the 1 in 29 residents who experienced property crime in 2020.
Bridgeton
An hour’s drive from Philadelphia, Bridgeton is the third most dangerous city in New Jersey. Despite its zoo, the real dangers are on its streets where violent crimes rank fifth in the state. Burglaries are also a big issue with Bridgeton having the highest rate in New Jersey for 2020.
Atlantic City
Despite its fame for casinos and beaches, Atlantic City has a darker side ranking as the fourth riskiest city in New Jersey. It has the tenth highest overall crime rate in the state with a 1 in 37 chance of experiencing property crime in 2020. Additionally, it’s the third highest for murders.
Woodbury
Woodbury isn’t a quiet forest town but part of the busy Philadelphia metro area. It’s the fifth most dangerous place in New Jersey mostly due to property crimes. With the seventh-highest rate of burglaries in the state, residents need to be cautious about securing their homes and belongings.
