Study Reveals: Eleven Individuals Drive Downtown Bakersfield’s Crime Wave
City Leaders Propose $500,000 Investment to Address Root Causes of Crime
According to Bakersfield.com in downtown Bakersfield a recent study showed that just eleven troublemakers people cause-lots of crime. These folks all homeless and dealing with mental health or drug problems do things like breaking windows and stealing. City leaders want to spend $500,000 to help these people with their issues instead of punishing them.

But fixing the problem isn’t easy. There aren’t enough places to help these eleven troublemakers or jails to put them in. Even though there are empty beds in the jail there aren’t enough staff to use them. And there aren’t enough hospital beds for people who need medical and mental health help. The city wants to work with the county to fix these eleven troublemakers. But without more help and places for these eleven troublemakers to go they’ll keep getting arrested or ending up in the emergency room. To really help we need to make sure they can get ongoing mental health care and support.
