Man Accused of Shooting at Police Faces Continued Detention

Deputies’ Efforts to Defuse Situation Met with Gunfire

According to ABC7 Anthony Carpenter a man from Tampa shooting at police officers at three police in Beacon Meadows Park. The State Attorney’s Office argued that he should stay in jail until his trial because he was a danger to the community. When deputies came to the park on April 14 because people were worried about Carpenter he got angry and didn’t listen to them for over 20 minutes. Even though deputies used a Taser on him Carpenter still shooting at police officers.

Courtroom Testimony Reveals Carpenter’s Defiance

Deputy Sean Bush said in court how Carpenter didn’t obey orders and was aggressive. Even after getting Taser Carpenter kept shooting at police officer. One of his shots hit Deputy Kerr Craige‘s radio hurting him badly. State Attorney Suzy Lopez said Carpenter’s actions were dangerous for everyone not just the police. Carpenter faces serious charges like trying to kill police officers and breaking the law with a weapon. Keeping him in jail reminds everyone how risky it can be for those who keep us safe. While the legal process goes on people are reminded of the dangers around them, and the police are determined to protect everyone.
