Aspen City Council Increases Food Tax Refund to Alleviate Financial Pressure on Residents
The Aspen City Council has decided to up the food tax refund from $65 to $85 to help out residents with their expenses. This move aims to give back to the community, particularly by easing the burden of grocery taxes for locals. The idea of food tax refunds was introduced as a way to encourage support for a sales tax referendum, promising to reimburse citizens for the approximate sales tax they’d pay annually on groceries due to a 1% city sales tax.
