Source– Hochul’s lawyer Faith E. Gay sent a 12-page letter to the mayor’s office, accusing the city of being slow in informing the state of crucial decisions. The city can possibly do more to act in both a proactive and collaborative manner with the state. Mayor Eric Adams was reminded by the state about the almost $1.5 billion in financial support for the city and it will continue providing financial assistance for support.
The migrant crisis is extremely costly because it will continue to provide financial resources. The city has been asked about the handling of funds. The city failed to use hundreds of vacant shelter beds as migrants slept on the street outside the Roosevelt Hotel. The Deputy Mayor of Communications Fabien Levy said Mayor Adams’ administration was reviewing the state’s letter. Additionally, the city has already spent more than $1.7 billion.
Mayor Eric Adam’s administration manages to provide shelter and services to more than 100,000 asylum seekers. The city is now projecting costs to exceed $12 billion by the end of 2024 for those asylum seekers who need help and temporary housing. Adams’ administration needs more partnerships from the state and national partners.
