Evanston’s New Initiative: Direct Guaranteed Income for Vulnerable Families

The city council agreed to give them $500 each month from guaranteed income they received as part of a government plan called the American Rescue Plan Act. This guaranteed income aims to help families who are struggling especially those with young children.  The project began last year with different groups getting the money. Now, they are focusing on families with kids under 5 who live in a certain part of the city. This area has been dealing with poverty for a long time. The money is meant to help with things like rent and childcare making life a bit easier for these families.
