Iowa – A deadline looming, the IRS is sounding the alarm for Iowans who may have overlooked their tax refunds from 2020. Christopher Miller, speaking for the IRS highlighted that about $11 million is still waiting to be claimed by roughly 10,000 people in Iowa alone. There is a crucial deadline approaching on May 17th, giving individuals a bit more time to act due to pandemic related extensions.
Miller emphasized that many individuals might have missed filing their tax refund in 2020 due to various circumstances including part time or small job earnings that fell below the threshold for mandatory filing. However, he pointed out that if taxes were deducted from their paychecks they could be entitled to a refund. Additionally, Miller highlighted the potential eligibility of low and moderate income workers for the Earned Income Tax Credit for the year 2020.
