Biden Administration Initiates Historic $1.5 Billion Loan to Revive Michigan Nuclear Plant
Biden Administration Invests Billions to Revive Closed Nuclear Plant in Michigan
The Biden administration announced a billion loan to restart a nuclear power plant in Michigan. This plant, called Palisades, has been closed for a while, but now they want to bring it back to life. The loan is worth $1.5 billion, and it’s the first time the U.S. is doing something like this.
The Palisades Nuclear Plant used to make electricity from 1977 to 2022. Now, with this loan they are planning to start it up again until at least 2051. The Energy Department and the state of Michigan want to restart it by late 2025. They say it will create jobs and help the environment because nuclear power does not make as much pollution as other kinds of energy.

People are happy about this plan. Jennifer Granholm, who is in charge of energy says it is important for clean energy and jobs. Michigan’s governor, Gretchen Whitmer, also thinks it is great and thanks everyone for working together to make it happen. The Biden administration wants to use more clean energy like nuclear power to reach their goal of having all electricity come from renewable sources by 2035.
