$50 Million Proposal for Private School and Homeschool Support
Debate Erupts as Idaho Lawmakers Consider $50 Million Education Bill
During a big meeting Idaho lawmakers talked a lot about House Bill 447. This bill wanted to give $50 million to families who choose private schools or teach their kids at home. Some people liked this idea because they thought it would let parents pick the best way for their kids to learn. Representative Wendy Horman said it could really help kids especially those who need extra help like kids with special needs.
Concerns Raised Over Fairness and Funding Impact of Education Bill
But some people didn’t like the law. They were worried it wouldn’t be fair and that it would take money away from public schools that already don’t have enough. Representative Lauren Necochea said there weren’t enough rules to make sure the money was used properly. She thought the law would just use public money instead of private money without making schools better. Idaho’s schools don’t get a lot of money for each student, so some people didn’t think it was smart to spend money on private schools when public schools need help. Now lawmakers have to decide what to do about the law but it’s a tough decision.
