Sunday morning on Highway 509 in Tacoma, six people were killed and three others were injured in a two-car crash, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Tacoma Car Crash Incident

The Washington State Patrol had reported late Sunday morning on Highway 509 in the Tacoma Tideflats, by the port that there has been a crash that killed six people, and three others were injured.

During the Tacoma car crash, the State Patrol and officials from the Fife Police Department, Fife Public Works, and the State Department of Transportation responded to the incident.

The Seattle Times reported that at about 11:15 in the morning, a BMW SUV with two people inside T-boned a 2021 Kia Forte hatchback carrying seven people at Alexander Avenue and Highway 509, according to the State Patrol.

The State Patrol Trooper John Dattilo report that the 2021 Kia vehicle that had been traveling on Alexander Avenue, caught fire after the Tacoma car crash.

Making five people died at the scene, and a sixth was later pronounced dead but it was unclear whether the sixth person died there or while being brought to a hospital.

The other people on Sunday evening, one person remained in critical condition. The two passengers in the BMW SUV were in stable condition.

Here’s What Caused To The Tacoma Car Crash

The investigation of the Tacoma car crash incident is still ongoing and the investigators are determined speed and a driver running a red light were likely factors, Dattilo said.

However, until evidence is found and reviewed investigators are unable to state the conclusion in which vehicle was committing those violations, Dattilo added.

Hence, the State Patrol is requesting anyone who may have witnessed the Tacoma car crash or has dashcam with a footage of the area around 11 in the morning is requested to contact Detective Michael Pry at 360-827-1401.
