Anti-Corruption Journalist Died After Fatally Shot
Ecuador presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio was shot on Wednesday evening during his presidential campaign less than two weeks before the election. His supporters were shocked by his sudden death. He pledged to minimize corruption and criminal activities. As a labor organizer and then a journalist he has been receiving death threats due to his corruption accusations targeting high-ranking political officials and financial establishments.
Many of his supporters waiting for details at his funeral. They were hosting to gather in his memory. Ecuador presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio’s body was released to two family representatives, including his lawyer on Thursday. His family decided to keep his funeral private, according to the source.
On Friday, there will be an expected event held by his supporters in honor of the slain candidate with more memorial events. One of the suspects in the shooting incident has died from injuries sustained in the shoot-out with authorities and the other six suspects were arrested. All of the suspects are Colombian and belonged to crime groups, according to Ecuadorean police.
