Struggling Americans who find it hard to put food on the table can catch a break with a tax rebate program that began on February 15 in Boulder, Colorado. The program has operated since 1967 and is specifically designed to help low-income residents save money.

While soaring grocery prices have impacted all consumers, those with lower incomes are often hit the hardest. To help address this issue, individuals can receive up to $104 in payment relief, while eligible families can receive up to $318. The rebate is designed to help pay for food and reduce the financial pressure on low-income residents.

However, to qualify for the benefit, applicants must meet three criteria. They must have been residing in Boulder for the entire 2023 calendar year, have been at least 62 years old for the whole of the year, and have a disability or have a family with children under the age of 18 in their household for the entire year. Community members without permanent shelter can also be eligible for the refund if they provide documentation proving they receive services from a city-recognized homelessness services agency.

Applications will be available on the city’s website, and candidates can apply until the deadline of June 30. They can also make an appointment or fill out a physical application. If candidates received the benefit for 2023, they should automatically receive a 2024 application in the mail. In 2023, 1,093 rebates were granted, and $162,000 in funds were dispersed.

This year’s program has been launched at a time when the cost of living continues to rise across the United States. In Colorado, property owners can also qualify for tax relief, with a $1 million pot of cash available to qualifying Johnstown residents. The rebate was approved on February 21 and offers up to $650,000 in tax relief. To qualify, residents must pay off all their property tax obligations by June 15. Approved candidates can expect a check in the mail by late August or September and no later than October 7. The rebate depends on a resident’s tax burden or the price of their home.

With these programs, the government is offering a helping hand to those who are struggling to make ends meet. The tax rebate program in Boulder is a great initiative that will provide much-needed financial relief to low-income residents, and the property tax program in Johnstown will help property owners reduce their tax burden. These programs demonstrate the government’s commitment to supporting its citizens during difficult times.
