A 22-year-old nursing student was found dead on the University of Georgia campus. The victim, Laken Riley, was a student at the University of Georgia in 2023 and transferred to Augusta University College of Nursing.
The suspect, named Jose Antonio Ibarra, was arrested and charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, kidnapping, hindering a 911 call, and concealing the death of another for the killing of Laken Riley. The suspect lives in Athens, the same city as the University, but officials say the suspect is not from America. The killings were seen in video footage that was found on the CCTV of the University of Georgia. Officials said that the suspect and the victim don’t have any relationship. The suspect is under custody now and has filed a case with the officials.
The victim who dies of force trauma dies on the spot. Her killing was investigated as a homicide. Riley’s colleagues and friends were sad about the tragedy since they knew how “bright and dedicated” she was. She also spots on the dean list for 2023.
University of Georgia Police announced Friday, Feb. 23, that they arrested a suspect and there were no threats to the rest of the campus.
