The Austin Guaranteed Income Pilot’s Impact on Jessica Nairns’ Journey and the Call for Systemic Change in Addressing Homelessness
According to Business Insider, the Austin Guaranteed Income Pilot helped 135 low-income families with $1,000 each month for a year. Jessica Nairns who joined the program used the money to improve her job and buy things she needed. Although the program made things easier for Nairns and gave her some stability it didn’t solve her housing problem for good. Even though she used the money wisely and worked hard it wasn’t enough to get her out of homelessness permanently.

Combining Guaranteed Income Pilot Support with Structural Reforms in Housing, Education, and Healthcare
Furthermore, Nairns thinks we need more than just giving money to fix homelessness. She believes we should also focus on things like making housing affordable and improving education and healthcare. Nairns suggests that a combination of income support and systemic changes could offer more sustainable solutions to help people escape poverty and homelessness in the future.
