Rhode Island’s Most Dangerous Cities for 2024 Revealed: Woonsocket and Providence Top the List
According to the latest statistics from Saturday Night Science, Woonsocket and Providence are the most dangerous cities in Rhode Island for 2024.
1. Woonsocket, with a population of 42,925 residents, tops the list with the highest number of violent crimes per 100,000 residents, standing at 449. In addition, Woonsocket also has the third-highest number of property crimes per 100,000 residents, standing at 1,786. Despite having no reported murders, the city is still considered the most dangerous in Rhode Island.
2. Providence, with a population of 189,064 residents, comes in at a close second with a violent crime rate of 340 per 100,000 residents and the highest number of property crimes per 100,000 residents, standing at 2,531. The city also reported seven murders in 2024.
3. Pawtucket, with a population of 74,967 residents, ranks as the third most dangerous city in Rhode Island, with a violent crime rate of 286 per 100,000 residents and the second-highest number of property crimes per 100,000 residents, standing at 2,252. The city also reported three murders in 2024.
4. Central Falls, with a population of 22,340 residents, ranks as the second most dangerous city in Rhode Island, with a violent crime rate of 402 per 100,000 residents and the seventh-highest number of property crimes per 100,000 residents, standing at 1,190. The city had no reported murders in 2024.
5. Newport, with a population of 25,039 residents, ranks as the fifth most dangerous city in Rhode Island, with a violent crime rate of 227 per 100,000 residents and the fourth-highest number of property crimes per 100,000 residents, standing at 1,573. The city reported one murder in 2024.
6. Lincoln ranks as the ninth most dangerous city in Rhode Island, with a low violent crime rate of 129 per 100,000 residents and a property crime rate of 1,040 per 100,000 residents. The town had no reported murders in 2024.
7. Cranston, with a population of 82,205 residents, ranks as the tenth most dangerous city in Rhode Island, with a violent crime rate of 119 per 100,000 residents and a property crime rate of 1,155 per 100,000 residents. The town had no reported murders in 2024.
8. Johnston, with a population of 29,430 residents, ranks as the 13th most dangerous city in Rhode Island, with a violent crime rate of 105 per 100,000 residents and a property crime rate of 1,250 per 100,000 residents. The town had no reported murders in 2024.
9. Warwick, with a population of 82,966 residents, ranks as the 15th most dangerous city in Rhode Island, with a low violent crime rate of 75 per 100,000 residents and a property crime rate of 1,406 per 100,000 residents. The town had no reported murders in 2024.
10. Warren, with a population of 11,243 residents, ranks as the 16th most dangerous city in Rhode Island, with a violent crime rate of 213 per 100,000 residents and a property crime rate of 764 per 100,000 residents. The town had no reported murders in 2024.
