In November 2023, in Portland, Oregon, two teenagers were arrested by the police for committing a harrowing act of car theft with child inside. The incident happened when the father of the little girl briefly left his car running to warm it up, and a young man wearing a beanie jumped in and drove off with the vehicle.

Fortunately, the child was found unharmed by a passerby shortly after the car theft with child inside was spotted being driven recklessly in another part of the city. The car was later discovered abandoned in Gresham.
After months of investigation, the police were able to identify and arrest the two young suspects, aged 13 and 14, both from Portland. The 13-year-old is facing charges including second-degree kidnapping, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and first-degree robbery, while the 14-year-old has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle. The names of the suspects were not released by the police due to their age.
