RoadSnacks compiled a list of the most perilous spots in Indiana for 2024, using data from the FBI crime report.

Exploring Indiana’s Top 10 Riskiest Cities – Terre Haute Leads, Followed by South Bend and Evansville!

The following are the top ten dangerous cities in Indiana to live in: Boonville, South Bend, Evansville, Indianapolis, Warsaw, Lafayette, Cumberland, New Albany, and Bloomington. Both property and violent crime rates per 100,000 residents were taken into account in the analysis.

Despite its quiet exterior, Terre Haute ranks highest among Indiana’s most hazardous cities because to a high rate of car theft, arson, and burglaries. With notable rates of auto theft and burglary, South Bend—known for both Notre Dame and Mayor Pete Buttigieg—follows closely behind, holding the record for the highest incidence of violent crimes in the state.

The third-largest city, Evansville, had the third-highest rate of rape incidents and a notable amount of larceny cases. The most populated city, Indianapolis, has a high rate of robberies and a significant number of homicides. Despite its modest size, Warsaw is ranked fifth among Indiana’s most dangerous cities due to its high rates of property and violent crime.

Lafayette, home to Purdue University, comes in sixth with above-average rates of both property and violent crimes. Cumberland, on the outskirts of Indianapolis, is seventh among the dangerous cities in Indiana, with a high rate of property crimes, including the second-highest larceny rate.

Unveiling the Most Dangerous Cities in Indiana – New Albany, Bloomington, and Boonville in the Spotlight!

New Albany, a suburb of Louisville, Kentucky, follows as the eighth most dangerous among the cities in Indiana, with high rates of property crime. Bloomington, home to Indiana University, reports a significant number of serious crimes, extending beyond typical college mischief.

Lastly, despite its name, Boonville ranks tenth among the dangerous cities in Indiana due to a high rate of violent crimes in its small population.

These findings serve as a reminder to be cautious in certain areas, as crime concentrates in Indiana’s larger cities, often tied to high unemployment and low wages. Understanding these statistics helps inform the public about dangerous cities in Indiana, shedding light on underlying issues.
