A manhunt was launched for Romeo Nance, 23 after seven individuals were found dead from gunshot wounds in Joliet on Monday. He was also wanted for two-weekend shootings. Authorities believed Nance was “armed and dangerous,” sparking a frantic search.
Joliet Shooting Suspect Nance Takes Own Life
Late, U.S. Marshals found Nance near Natalia, Texas. When confronted by police, Nance shot himself. Natalia lies southwest of San Antonio 30 miles.
Around midday, the Will County Sheriff’s Office alerted Joliet police to an incident in the 2200 block of West Acres. Officers found seven dead in two homes after receiving the call.
Nance was linked to two unrelated Sunday shootings. Two incidents occurred within ten minutes: a 42-year-old man was shot in the leg, and Toysi Bakare, 28, was killed. The Sunday shootings were random, and the victims had no obvious connections. Oddly, the same car involved in Monday’s horrific shootings was at both Sunday instances.

Police installed cameras on West Acres Road, where Nance was last seen, after Sunday’s shootings. Despite constant surveillance, the car never returned. Deputies contacted the vehicle’s registered owner.
Sunday’s incidents led deputies to the car owner’s home. After failing to open the door, they went to a nearby house where the first home’s relatives lived. The house was searched after blood was spotted outside, revealing two shot and killed people. The residence was in Joliet, so police were contacted. A second property across the street had five more bodies.
Police Chief Bill Evans said the seven victims were linked and may have known Nance, but the exact relationship was unknown. Joliet police and the Will County Sheriff’s Office received assistance from the FBI Fugitive Task Force. The events depict a community hit by abrupt violence, leaving law enforcement and civilians reeling.
