On September 2021, Meghan Santiago, the soldier’s wife, sustained blunt-force injuries and later died in the hospital. After almost two years since the soldier was arrested and charged with murder, he was finally found guilty by the Fort Campbell jury.
The Sgt. 1st Class Joseph A. Santiago was charged with three articles, military offenses covered under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ). The said articles are Article 118 (murder), Article 119a (manslaughter), and Article 128 (assault).

Who or What Killed Meghan
It was stated by the prosecution that Joseph’s temper and Meghan’s addiction to alcohol had played a big part in Meghan’s death.
Joseph’s violence to her pregnant wife was due to her having plans to leave her husband and keeping her pregnancy a secret. This resulted in Joseph hitting his wife until she lost consciousness.
Joseph Santiago claimed that the injuries of Meghan were due to her drunken fall and not because of his violence. However, Montgomery told the court that Meghan’s alcohol addiction had nothing to do with her death.
The sentencing of the soldier is scheduled for Wednesday morning.
