The U.S. has made deals with countries in Northern Europe, like Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. They want to quickly bring American troops there for training and emergencies because they’re worried about Russia. These agreements help these countries work together for defense planning and operations. Finland joining NATO and having a long border with Russia make this a big deal, leading to tensions with Moscow. This shows how the region is getting more concerned about security. Helsinki claims that since Russia encourages migration, there is unrest along Finland’s border. Finland had to close a few crossing sites as a result. In order to resolve this, Finland quickly negotiated a security agreement with the United States. Finland believes that Russia is attempting to cause issues. The president of Russia declared military operations close to Finland, which emphasizes the significance of American forces stationed there. Finland was once neutral, but because of Russia’s activities in Ukraine, it joined NATO. By signing military agreements with Nordic nations, the United States was able to station its soldiers there. With Finland and Sweden abandoning their positions of neutrality, Europe has seen significant changes since 2022. Denmark joined the EU’s defense alliance as well. Agreements with the United States about plans for NATO and other projects were recently amended by Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. This shows a new focus on defense in Europe.
