87 Degrees One Day, Storms the Next: Kansas City’s Wild Week Ahead!

87 Degrees One Day, Storms the Next: Kansas City’s Wild Week Ahead!

If you’ve stepped outside today, you’ve probably noticed it’s one of those days where the sunshine is trying to trick us—it looks nice, but it definitely feels chilly. We’re sitting around 45°F this afternoon, which is a bit cool for mid-April, but the skies are clear and the sunshine helps take the edge off.

We’ll warm up a bit as the day goes on, reaching around 65°F later. Tonight, it’ll cool back down to the upper 40s, so if you’re heading out late, a light jacket is still a smart move.

Midweek Warm-Up… With a Catch

Starting tomorrow, the weather takes a turn—mostly for the better, but with a few strings attached.

  • Wednesday: Things start to heat up, with highs in the low 70s. You’ll probably notice it feeling a lot more spring-like. But don’t leave home without checking the radar—there’s a chance of afternoon storms rolling through, and a few could be a bit rowdy. We’re talking gusty winds and maybe even some small hail.

  • Thursday: Now this one’s a big flip. We’re jumping to almost summer-like temps—highs near 87°F! It’ll be windy, especially early in the day, and there could be a few morning showers before the sun takes over.

End of Week: A Cool Down and Storm Watch

  • Friday: Cooler than Thursday but still nice, with highs in the low 70s and a mix of clouds and sun. Morning breezes should calm down by afternoon.

  • Saturday: Feels more like classic spring. Cloudy, cooler (around 60°F), and a few showers may drift through. A good day for indoor plans just in case.

  • Sunday: This is the one to keep an eye on. Storms are looking likely, and they might be strong—possibly bringing damaging winds, hail, and yes, even the risk of a tornado. It’s still a few days out, but definitely one of those days to stay weather-aware and check for updates.

Looking Ahead to Next Week

  • Monday: A calmer start to the week. Sunshine returns, and we’re back in the high 60s—feels like spring should.

What’s Typical for April in KC?

April here is pretty unpredictable—it’s the kind of month where you’ll see every season in one week. On average, we see highs near 67°F and lows in the upper 40s. Rain is common, and April also kicks off our storm season, so those pop-up thunderstorms? Totally normal.

In Short:

  • Chilly but sunny today

  • Warm and possibly stormy midweek

  • Cooler with a stormy Sunday

  • Spring’s here—just with a few mood swings

Make sure to enjoy the sunshine while it’s here, and keep an eye on the forecast as we head into the weekend. Things could get a little wild, weather-wise.
