Planning to Ditch Your Coat, NYC? Think Again — April’s Forecast Has Other Plans!

Planning to Ditch Your Coat, NYC? Think Again — April’s Forecast Has Other Plans!

Ah, April in New York. That magical time when the city starts to shake off its winter blues — but don’t be fooled. Just because the calendar says “spring” doesn’t mean the weather is done messing with us.

You might start your day with blue skies and a walk through Central Park’s cherry blossoms… only to end it dodging puddles and wondering why you didn’t bring a jacket.

One Word: Layers. Lots of ‘Em.

The temps this month are all over the place. Most days hang out in the 60s (around 16°C), which sounds great until a random breeze has you regretting that hoodie. Nights? Still chilly — think low 40s (about 6°C).

In true New York fashion, the best approach is to dress like you’re headed to a rooftop brunch and a snowstorm. Because honestly? You might be.

Rain Is Inevitable. But So Is That Perfect Spring Day.

April and rain go together like bagels and cream cheese. We’re talking about 10 to 12 rainy days this month, give or take. And when it rains? It pours — sometimes out of nowhere.

But don’t worry, sunshine isn’t too far behind. Those gray mornings can give way to golden afternoons that make the whole city sparkle. Pro tip: never leave home without an umbrella. It’s practically part of your outfit.

More Daylight = More City to Love

The days are getting longer — and that means more time for street fairs, evening walks, or that extra glass of wine on a patio somewhere in SoHo. We’re getting around 13 hours of daylight now, and about 8 hours of real sunshine.

That spring light hits the skyline just right, and suddenly everything feels like a movie scene. Welcome back, golden hour. We missed you.

Still Not Beach Weather (Sorry)

We know — those sunny days make it look like it’s time for Rockaway or Brighton Beach. But don’t let the sunshine fool you. The ocean is still sitting at a brisk 45°F (7°C), which is fine for a walk, but not exactly “dip your toes in” weather.

The City’s Waking Up — And It’s Gorgeous

April might be a little unpredictable, but that’s kind of what makes it beautiful. Parks are exploding with flowers, rooftops are reopening, and there’s a buzz in the air that says: summer’s not here yet, but it’s coming.

There’s something really special about New York this time of year — when strangers are just a little nicer, the city smells like fresh rain and hot pretzels, and the skyline looks like it’s shaking off the cold right along with the rest of us.

It’s All Part of the Ride

If you live here, you already know — April keeps you on your toes. If you’re visiting? Embrace the chaos. Bring a jacket, grab that umbrella, and be ready to fall in love with NYC all over again.

After all, no one does spring quite like this city.
