Wild Weather Alert: 80 Degrees Today, Storms Tonight, and Freezing Tomorrow?!

If you stepped outside today and thought, Wow, it feels like summer!, you’re not wrong. But don’t get too used to it—Kansas City’s weather is about to flip the script in a big way. We’re talking severe storms, a dramatic temperature drop, and a complete change in atmosphere—all within 24 hours. Buckle up, because it’s going to be a bumpy ride!

Saturday: Warm and Breezy Before Storms Take Over

Saturday started off unseasonably warm, with temperatures climbing to 80°F (27°C)—a rare treat for this time of year. But as the sun goes down, the atmosphere is about to get a whole lot more interesting.

A cold front is charging toward Kansas City, and it’s bringing some serious storms along for the ride. By tonight, we could see thunderstorms packing damaging winds, hail, and even an isolated tornado. If you have evening plans, make sure you have a way to get weather alerts because things could get dicey fast.

Sunday: A Temperature Freefall and Stormy Start

If you wake up Sunday morning and think you’ve been transported to a different season, you’re not alone. The same cold front that’s bringing storms Saturday night will send temperatures plummeting, with a high of just 49°F (9°C)—more than 30 degrees colder than Saturday!

Rain and thunderstorms could still linger into the morning, and some may bring heavy downpours, gusty winds, and localized flooding. If you’re heading out, dress in layers—it’s going to feel pretty raw compared to Saturday’s warmth.

Monday and Beyond: Slowly Warming Up, But Watch for Fire Danger

Monday will still be on the cool side, with a high around 55°F (13°C) and lingering clouds. By Tuesday, we’ll start warming back up, reaching 65°F (18°C), and Wednesday will be even milder at 71°F (22°C).

But here’s the catch—gusty winds and dry conditions midweek could increase the risk of brush fires. So if you’re planning to fire up the grill or do any outdoor burning, keep an eye on conditions.

How to Stay Ahead of This Weather Whiplash

Kansas City is known for its wild weather swings, but this weekend’s changes are especially dramatic. Here’s how to be prepared:

Stay updated – Keep an eye on weather alerts, especially for Saturday night’s storms.
Have a plan – If a severe weather warning is issued, know where to take shelter.
Dress for the shift – A t-shirt might work Saturday, but you’ll need a jacket by Sunday!
Be mindful of fire risks – By midweek, dry conditions and strong winds could make things hazardous.

Spring in the Midwest is never boring, and this weekend is a perfect example. Stay safe, stay prepared, and get ready for a little bit of everything!
