Houston’s Weather Whiplash: From Torrential Rain to Near-Record Heat!

Houston’s Weather Whiplash: From Torrential Rain to Near-Record Heat!

If you thought Houston’s weather couldn’t get any crazier, think again. This weekend, we’re in for a wild mix—from flooding rains and severe storms to a sudden burst of summer heat. Whether you’re planning to stay in, hit the roads, or spend time outdoors, you’ll want to know what’s coming so you’re not caught off guard.

FRIDAY: HEAVY RAIN, FLOODING & A SOGGY START

Friday isn’t playing around—expect rain, lots of it. With a Flood Watch in effect for Houston and surrounding areas, the biggest concern will be street flooding and dangerous driving conditions.

High: 78°F (26°C) | Low: 67°F (19°C)
Rain & Thunderstorms – Some areas could see more rain in one day than in the past two months combined!
Flash Flood Risk – If you live in a flood-prone area, keep a close eye on rising water levels.

What to Watch Out For:

  • Morning & Afternoon: Heavy downpours, reduced visibility, and slick roads. If you’re driving, take it slow!

  • Evening: The rain may lighten up, but floodwaters could still be an issue in some areas.

  • Low-lying roads? Avoid them! “Turn around, don’t drown.”

SATURDAY: WARM, HUMID & A TEMPORARY BREAK

After Friday’s washout, Saturday brings some relief. We’ll see a mix of clouds and sunshine, with only a slight chance of a stray shower. The air will feel sticky and humid, but at least it won’t be storming all day.

High: 84°F (29°C) | Low: 70°F (21°C)
More Sun, Less Rain – Finally, a breather!
A Stray Shower? Maybe. But nothing major.

Best Day for Outdoor Plans! If you’ve got errands, brunch, or an outdoor workout planned, Saturday is your best bet. Just keep the umbrella nearby—just in case.

SUNDAY: STORMS RETURN—AND THEY COULD BE INTENSE!

Don’t get too comfortable—Sunday brings a new round of storms that could pack a punch. We’re talking gusty winds, possible hail, and maybe even a tornado risk.

High: 85°F (29°C) | Low: 71°F (22°C)
Morning Showers → Afternoon Storms – Some storms could be severe.
Watch Out for:

  • Strong winds (40+ mph gusts)

  • Hail in the strongest storms

  • Potential tornado risk (stay weather-aware!)

What to Do:

  • Have a backup plan for outdoor activities.

  • Secure patio furniture or anything that could blow away.

  • Stay tuned for weather alerts in case conditions worsen.

MONDAY & BEYOND: HELLO, SUMMER?!

After all the rain and storms, next week flips the script—Houston will feel like it’s jumping straight into summer!

  • Monday: Hot & humid, 86°F (30°C)

  • Tuesday: Slight rain chance, 80°F (26°C)

  • Wednesday: Near-record heat—could hit 86°F (30°C), matching a record set in 1939!

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Friday: Stay off flooded roads & expect traffic delays.
Saturday: Best day for outdoor plans—warm & mostly dry!
Sunday: Storms could turn severe—stay alert!
Next Week: Feeling like summer already? Get ready for it!

Houston, this weekend has it all—floods, storms, and a preview of summer. Stay safe, stay dry, and keep an eye on the skies!
