A recent survey indicates that most Americans are part of President Donald Trump’s United States. Shipbuilding takes back efforts to rejuvenate the industry to improve better with China’s dominance in global maritime trade.
Rod High
The survey conducted by Morning Consult for Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM) between 10 and March 12, 2025, shows that 72% of those surveyed believe that the United States should not rely on China and other foreign countries for their needs to meet. Only 11% of only 11% feel comfortable depending on other countries for both commercial and military ships.
In addition, 68% of participants see the opportunity to produce ships as national security cases, and 71% of lawyers for state investments in the domestic shipbuilding sector. Concerns about using Chinese-produced floating breweries for the maintenance of US military vessels also increased, 70% gave it a national security risk.
Suggested Administration Measures
In response to these concerns, the Trump administration has proposed several measures, where at least 1% of US exports involve moving. The purpose of these initiatives is to increase the domestic shipping industry and reduce the dependence on foreign ships.
Bilateral support for shipbuilding
Push to Revive American Ship Construction has rarely received bilateral support. Trade unions, such as United Steelworkers, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, the International Brotherhood of Boyleckers, and the International Association of Machines and Aerospace Workers, have called for tariffs and other penalties against China to address their increasing dominance.
Global references and national security implications
China’s sufficient investment in the shipbuilding industry has increased the alarm about national security and economic competition. The Chinese government gave more than $ 100 billion in support of its yards between 2010 and 2018, which in recent years led to the accounting of Chinese shipyards for a majority of global orders
Public sense of trade work against China
Beyond shipbuilding, there is a comprehensive feeling among Americans on trade work against China. A nationwide survey found that 62% of the US supports increasing tariff rates for Chinese imports, reflecting concern about national security and economic justice.
