Nanmadi Kanu, head of indigenous people in Biafra, conducts a new test in Nigeria under the supervision of a fourth judge. This development follows a series of legal changes and legal challenges that have marked the syllabus in their case.
The reason for the case
Kanu, a British citizen, was first arrested in 2015 in charges including terrorism and betrayal because of his a spokesman for the separation of Southeast -Nigeria in Nigeria. After fleeing the country in 2017 under bail, he was again arrested in Kenya in 2021 and delivered to Nigeria. Since then, his testing has experienced several delays and legal returns.
Recently legal development
Originally under the presidency of Justice Ahmed Mohammed, the test was later handled by Justice John TSO. Then, justice handled the Binta Nyako case but resumed in September 2024 after allegations of bias. Because of this, Justice John Tsoho, chief of the federal Supreme Court, was transferred to Justice James Omotosho’s case. The test under Justice Omotosho began on March 21, 2025, when Kanu was not convinced of the allegations.
Test processing and future dates
During the first proceedings under Justice Omotosho, the test dates were set for April 29, May 2, and May 6, 2025. He has apologized for any previous disturbance in court, to ensure a smooth test process.
Public and international reaction
The test has attracted considerable attention at national and international levels. Kingsley Kanu, brother of Nnamdi Kanu, criticized the British government’s response to his brother’s delivery and stated that the UK has “changed back” to Nanmdi despite British citizenship. He asks Prime Minister Kir Stmper to take more crucial measures to take up the situation.
