From Rain to Shine: Atlanta's Midweek Showers Lead into a Warmer Weekend

A wet and chilly Wednesday is in store for Atlanta as rain moves in, but don’t worry—warmer temperatures are on the horizon. After a stretch of dry and cool weather, showers will sweep across the region midweek before giving way to a noticeable warming trend heading into the weekend.

When Will the Rain Arrive?

Rain is expected to move into the metro area early Wednesday morning and continue through the early afternoon. While it won’t be a complete washout, on-and-off showers could create slick roads and slow down the morning commute.

  • Wednesday, February 19: Cloudy with rain, especially in the morning. Highs will reach 46°F (8°C), but by nighttime, temperatures will drop to 24°F (-5°C). The combination of wet surfaces and falling temperatures could lead to patchy ice on roads and bridges late at night.

  • Thursday, February 20: After the rain clears, a blast of cold air moves in. Despite some sunshine, the high will only reach 37°F (3°C), with lows plunging to 19°F (-7°C). Bitter mornings and breezy conditions will make it feel even colder.

When Does the Warm-Up Begin?

If you’re not a fan of winter’s chill, good news is on the way. By Friday, February 21, temperatures will start climbing back into the upper 40s, and by the weekend, Atlanta will finally feel some mild, spring-like weather.

  • Friday, February 21: Mostly sunny but still on the chilly side. Highs around 47°F (8°C), with lows near 27°F (-3°C).
  • Saturday, February 22: The real warm-up begins! Expect partly sunny skies with highs near 52°F (11°C), and a milder overnight low of 32°F (0°C).
  • Sunday, February 23: A gorgeous end to the weekend with plenty of sunshine and highs reaching 56°F (13°C).

What This Means for You

  • Wednesday’s Rain: Pack an umbrella and be prepared for damp conditions, especially in the morning. Give yourself extra time on the roads as showers may slow down traffic.
  • Late Week Cold Blast: Don’t let the warm-up fool you just yet! Thursday morning will be bitterly cold, so bundle up before heading out.
  • Perfect Weekend Ahead: If you’ve been waiting for a break from the cold, it’s coming! The weekend will bring warmer afternoons, making it great for outdoor plans.

Final Thoughts

Atlanta is in for a wild weather ride this week—starting with rain and cold temperatures, followed by a much-needed warm-up by the weekend. While the wet and chilly midweek forecast isn’t ideal, the upcoming sunshine and warmer days will be a welcome change.
