Three mules used to help Hurricane Helene victims access supplies struck and killed by semitruck on road

In Mount Ulla, North Carolina, Mountain Mule Packer Ranch has had to cope with the devastating loss of three mules struck and killed by a semitruck on the county road.

The tragic accident occurred earlier in the week after a tree had fallen down on one of the pastures, breaking the fence, and three mules left the pasture at night. It had been Vader, Amigo and Kev who were hit while walking on the road.

We could not be more heartbroken over this incredible loss, and it is with great pain that we share it with you, as we know many of you have also fallen in love with these sweet animals.

These are the mules who walked along the treacherous mountain roads and pathways obstructed by trees and debris, in order to deliver disaster relief from western North Carolina to eastern Tennessee.

The mules had been specially trained for both civilian and military groups to help transport supplies to the remote locations other vehicles or forms of transport were not able to access. They also carried communication and medical gear.

For anyone not remembering the terrible devastation caused by Hurricane Helene and the 500 miles destructive path she left, the mules saved so many lives and brought hope to some of the most isolated.

they brought more than just supplies to people, it’s that they were bringing hope to people because there were so many people that felt like they were forgotten.

Relief efforts continue in Black Mountain, North Carolina, and Vader, Amigo and Kev are terribly missed.

We will forever honor them for their faithful, loyal, and honorable service to others as they were used in training of some of the finest military members our country has, and especially the countless hours of work they have done to help so many families affected by Hurricane Helene. Besides their service, they were more importantly a part of our family, and loved.

Rest in peace Vader, Amigo and Kev. Mission Mules site that reads:

In the heart of a mule lies the spirit of persistence, unyielding to the weight of its load.
