One mid-size truck started the year with a massive sales increase. However, it’s still trailing behind rivals.
For most trucks, 2025 has started off strong. Popular options such as the Ford F-150 and Toyota Tacoma have sales increases to brag about. However, the mid-size truck with the biggest sales increase still has work to do.
The mid-size truck with the biggest sales increase is still struggling
The mid-size truck with the biggest sales increase is the Ford Ranger. It sold 303 trucks in January 2024 and 4,502 trucks in 2025. This is a year-over-year sales increase of 1,385.8%, which is an impressive number. However, it lags behind its rivals.
For example, in January 2024, the Toyota Tacoma sold 8,203 trucks. In January 2025, this figure increased to 18,766 for a year-over-year sales increase of 56.3%. But the Tacoma sold 14,264 more trucks than the Ranger in January 2025.
On an interesting note, the Ford Maverick sold 8,730 trucks in January, putting it ahead of the Ranger by 4,228 trucks.
According to Good Car Bad Car, the Ranger sold 51,591 mid-size trucks in 2024. The Tacoma sold 192,813 trucks in 2024, while the Nissan Frontier sold 58,134 units and the Chevrolet Colorado sold 98,013 models.
You could say the Ranger faces weak sales because the new generation launched in 2024. Factories had to be updated to build the new trucks. However, Tacoma faced the same type of delays while moving from Texas to Mexico.
The Ranger is built alongside the Ford Bronco, and Ford may have been working to get through its backlog of Bronco orders. Either way, the Ranger is struggling behind the rest its rivals.
