In Weatherford, Texas, Melissa, a Good Samaritan was brought to tears earlier this week. Someone had abandoned a beautiful German shepherd outdoors with a pile of trash in a remote area behind the neighborhood where she lived.
Melissa was heartbroken and no doubt so was the dog:

this is what dumping a dog looks like. they are terrified, confused, cold and hungry.
Melissa had discovered the dog after a neighbor had spotted her and went out to see if the dog was still there the next morning. And there she was – curled up in a ball shivering. She had been in that one spot for at least two days. There was little doubt she stayed in that spot out of pure loyalty; she patiently waited for her person to return.
Melissa approached her, and although the dog was nervous, she was grateful for the food and water and walked over to her rescuer.
I was able to get a leash on her and then she immediately jumped in my car. Her demeanor completely changed and she seemed so relieved to be out of the cold, wet weather.
Unfortunately, Melissa was not able to keep her, but took her to the Weatherford Parker Co. Animal Shelter. She is on stray hold but seeing how someone just discarded her like trash, it’s doubt they are going to claim her.
The shelter has named her Kelli. She weighs 92 pounds and will be vaccinated, microchipped and is available for adoption today. She is described as a “complete sweetheart,” and it would be wonderful if someone reading her story today would consider adopting her.
