Dodge Challenger recall suggests the most powerful muscle car has been skipping the gym

The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 recall cites faulty spark plugs.

This recall addresses a power-eliminating issue in the hilariously powerful halo car of the Dodge Challenger lineup.

Dodge and Stellantis have recalled 3,300 Challenger coupes. While that might not sound like a wild development, the recall pertains specifically to the most powerful muscle car of all time: the 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170.

The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 is the most powerful muscle car ever, but a recent recall is robbing it of its 1,025 HP

The 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 sold out fast. Real fast. Like its predecessor, the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, the Mopar Mad Scientists produced just 3,300 SRT Demon 170s. And now, every Demon 170 owner is receiving a notice from Dodge regarding their Challenger’s supercharged, alcohol-swilling 6.2L V8.

Stellantis, the parent company behind Dodge, Chrysler, and Jeep, issued a notification for all 3,300 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 models. Unfortunately, the Dodge Challenger recall suggests that the SRT Demon 170s may experience a “spark plug issue.” Consequently, SRT Demon 170 owners may note misfires and a loss of power.

What’s more, Dodge is quietly handling the situation. The brand’s dealer network is fielding spark plug replacement kits to remedy the faulty plugs, per Mopar Insiders. Owners will need to take their limited-run muscle cars to a service center to get all 16 spark plugs replaced, free of charge.

Frankly, owners will want to take care of the recall quickly. When the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 is working properly, it’s the most hilariously powerful muscle car ever. The supercharged 6.2L C170 HEMI V8 produces around 900 horsepower and 810 lb-ft of torque on pump gas.

However, feed the SRT Demon 170 some E85, and the figures get even crazier. With the 170-proof cocktail in its system, the SRT Demon 170 produces 1,025 horsepower and 945 lb-ft of torque. Those aren’t show muscles, either. The Demon’s second coming will wheelie its way to 60 mph in just 1.66 seconds. On a prepped surface, of course.
