The Honda CR-V outsold all five of these American small SUVs, despite their consumer satisfaction scores.
The Honda CR-V is popular. Really popular. Americans purchased over 400,000 of the compact SUV fan favorite in 2024, making it the fifth best-selling vehicle in the country. Still, five domestic small SUVs managed to outscore the wildly popular CR-V in consumer satisfaction, including two unexpected segment leaders.
J.D. Power scored the 2025 Honda CR-V lower than five small SUVs with American badges
According to J.D. Power, the 2025 Honda CR-V earned an 83 out of 100 for overall consumer satisfaction. While that score ties it with the Hyundai Kona, Kia Seltos, and Subaru Forester, it isn’t enough to beat five small, popular SUVs with American badges.
However, the 2025 Buick Envista and Buick Encore GX earned an 87 and an 85, respectively. Those scores factor in consumer-sourced data regarding reliability, resale value, driving experience, and dealership satisfaction. Incidentally, the Buick SUVs shined in terms of dealership experience, earning a 93 out of 100 and a “Best” rating in the category.
The 2025 Chevrolet Trailblazer scored tied the Buick Encore GX with an 85 out of 100 and the Chevrolet Trax received an 84. Moreover, while the CR-V scored an 84 in quality and reliability, the Trailblazer beat it by two points.
Finally, the 2025 Ford Bronco Sport earned an 83 out of 100. Granted, that score ties the Bronco Sport with the CR-V. However, the Ford SUV scores well ahead of the CR-V in the quality and reliability category.
Still, even with higher overall consumer satisfaction scores, none of these domestic-badged small SUVs outsold the Honda CR-V last year. Honda sold 402,791 CR-Vs in 2024. As a result, the CR-V was the third-best-selling SUV in the country behind the Toyota RAV4 and the Tesla Model Y. By contrast, Americans purchased less than half as many Chevrolet Trax SUVs as they did Honda CR-Vs.
