The determined Floridian was tased several times and dozens of officers needed to pull him from the stolen car.
The incident happened in December, but a compilation of body camera and police dash cam footage depicted a scene straight out of the Grand Theft Auto video game franchise. A man from South Florida took police on a wild ride after he evaded arrest. He also wasn’t wearing pants.
Police arrived at a Key Largo, Florida house after a 911 call came in on December 22, 2024. Armando Lopez’s daughter made the call when her father came over to violently tie up some loose ends.
“My dad is in my house hitting my mom to death,” the young girl was recorded saying, quoted by Local 10. Now, he’s wanted for attempted murder. Police sergeant James Hager arrived and physically fought Lopez, leading to the fugitive attempting to take Hager’s gun from the holster.
Lopez fought some more with the sergeant before making it out of the house, where Hager tased him repeatedly. While being tased, Lopez hopped into the sergeant’s police cruiser and drove off.
“He just stole my patrol car!” said Hager. “He’s running northbound. Lights are on. He tried to take my gun from my holster.”
Lopez decided to play cop to seize another car
While police pursued Lopez, he was recorded by the cruiser’s dash cam pulling over a 46-year-old woman and forcing her out of the SUV. Like I said – straight out of Grand Theft Auto. Shortly after he took her car, he crashed and rolled it.
Eventually, state troopers joined the chase, and they were able to pin Lopez down after pulling him from under the SUV.
Now he sits in jail, waiting for his long list of criminal charges to be finalized. Until then, he’s in custody without bond.
