Toyota trucks are supposed to love mud! However, mud could cause Toyota Tacoma brakes to fail in a strange recall.
It seems like mud would be a Toyota Tacoma’s best friend. However, in a shocking twist, mud is causing Toyota Tacoma brakes to fail. This problem has led to a massive recall for over 106,000 trucks. See if your model is at risk.
Toyota Tacoma brakes may fail due to mud
This has been a busy month for truck recalls. The latest recall filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA) is related to Toyota Tacoma brakes.
Over 106,000 Tacoma trucks manufactured between 2024 and 2025 are at risk of brake failure due to the build-up of mud. As people go on adventures, and expose the inside of their wheels to mud and dirt, the build-up could lead to wear.
As a result, the brake lines could leak, causing a decline in performance and stopping distance, which increases the risk of accidents and injuries.
The recall is only related to Toyota Tacoma trucks equipped with four-wheel drive, 17-inch wheels, and the 16-inch braking kid in the rear. Toyota is currently looking into two-wheel drive models and four-wheel drive models with 18-inch wheels and 16-inch brakes.
Beginning in April, drivers at risk will be notified via mail. If your truck is included, you will need to visit a local dealership for service. Technicians will reattach, move, or replace your brake lines as needed.
Toyota first learned about this problem in July 2024. It received 12 warranty claims related to the issue and five field reports. If you have already had your brake lines repaired then you may qualify for reimbursement.
