At the North Carolina animal shelter, Watauga Humane Society, a senior dog arrived just last week after she had been struck by a car. Kindness met her square in her pretty face; the driver stopped and helped her:
Life could have taken a tragic turn – but fate had a different plan. the man who struck her didn’t just drive away. he stopped. he carried her to safety and held her through her pain. and when he realized he couldn’t keep her, he made sure she had a fighting chance.
The 10-year-old dog dubbed White Cheddar Popcorn, had been rushed to an emergency veterinarian. She had suffered from limited vision and a “severely bruised bladder”. She’s slowly healing, and now she waits for a home.

According to the rescue organization, Popcorn doesn’t want pity; she wants love. The noise of the shelter and all the strange and new people milling about makes her shake with fear, but she still leans into every kind touch and soaks up kindness like the treasure she is.

Popcorn won’t ask for much. She’s past the days of zoomies . and chewed-up sneakers . All she needs is a quiet corner, a gentle hand , and a heart willing to make room for one resilient senior girl.

Popcorn does receive pain medication, but she’s doing fine.
