Watch these mechanics rescue a kitten from a car’s engine compartment

A rescue kitten like the one mechanics removed from an engine bay.

Of all the things you expect to find in your car’s engine bay, this might be one of the weirdest possibilities.

A test drive is a vital, illuminating experience. A would-be car buyer can identify issues, get a feel for the vehicle, and make a decision all within the confines of a short cruise. Still, one of you things you don’t expect to find on a test drive is a stowaway kitten in need of a rescue.

A kitten is an unlikely companion for a test ride and an exciting rescue

A consumer test-drove a white, first-generation Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class sedan at a shop in Georgia. However, the sedan had an unlikely issue. The driver returned the car, complaining that they had “heard a cat.” Seriously.

The team peered around the Mercedes-Benz CLS sedan’s engine, looking for signs of life. Nothing. A team member went inside the building to talk to the test driver. She said she heard the meowing near the driver’s side firewall.

It didn’t take long for the kitten to report its position. “Aw, you are in there,” one mechanic said before attempting a rescue. “You’re in a bad spot,” he told the slippery little feline. After a couple of minutes of talking to the kitten, the team decided to push the car into the shop, put it on a lift, and recover the cat from underneath the car.

Interestingly enough, the motion of rolling the car and lifting was enough to spook the little cat. Fortunately, that didn’t stop the mechanics from beginning their kitten rescue attempt. However, as with any bewildered animal, the cat had no idea that the mechanics meant to rescue her. As such, the kitten hissed at them any time they approached.

Still, after minutes of reaching up into the CLS’s engine bay, the mechanic extricated the kitten. “I told you we needed a shop cat,” one mechanic said after the rescue. Tank, the shop’s dog, was laser-focused on the kitten from the start.

Appropriately, the mechanics delivered the cat to a local veterinary team. After asking what kind of vehicle the kitten had climbed up into, the team had a name. Mercedes was at the vet and safer than she was in the engine bay of a sedan.
