[Watch] An entire team of mechanics struggles to name any common Honda problems

Accurate Automotive in Northglenn, Colorado, has at least half a dozen mechanics. The shop earned more than 400 Google reviews averaging 4.4 stars. The facility performs all manner of repairs and maintenance on foreign and domestic brands. While they were working the other week, the social media guy went around asking the team to name common problems Honda cars have. Their response was mixed…with most of them actually struggling to even come up with anything.

Honda? Ummm…

The first tech pauses and thinks. “The newer ones: Timing chain tensioners,” he asserts. The second mechanic repeats the question before pondering. “Timing belt,” he says, without explaining. I’m not sure what he means by it, since timing belts are a regular factory-scheduled maintenance item that doesn’t tend to suffer premature failure.

After that, though, it’s a real puzzle for the team.

“Honda’s don’t have a lot of issues,” the next one asserts, “But the older ones have transmission problems, [unintelligible], rear main seal leaks…” before nodding that he’s done with the question.

The fourth mechanic makes a face. He suggests that they need valve adjustments, which is another factory scheduled engine maintenance item. Overall, they’re just a good running car, he says. “You know, you take care of them, they run for a long time. I don’t really know of other issues from Hondas.” he tells his coworker.

Moving on, the fifth mechanic also makes a face and exerts a long “Umm…” “Engine noise at startup,” he replies with body language that suggests he’s scraping for an answer. “Umm, a little oil consumption here and there, not much,” he adds, shrugging. “I don’t think…”

The last tech also looks unduly pressured by the question. “Um, I mean timing chains…but that’s normal maintenance. Umm…I guess, like, transmissions.”

“The fact that everybody has to pause for a good amount of time speaks volumes,” one posted. “Honda should sponsor y’all.

“yes. second time having my timing belt changed… but then again I’m at 242,000 miles,” another asserted.

“So keep buying Honda got it,” another registered.
