Elusive ‘Houdini’ pup Scrim finally capture again after months on the lam

On Tuesday, the popular internet “Houdini” dog was reunited with the owner of Zeus’ Rescues after he was captured months after escaping and on the lam.

Welcome home Scrim.

It was Michelle Cheramie, the owner of the non-profit rescue Zeus’ Rescues, in New Orleans, who updated everyone after having received a call from a local cat rescuer who had been trapping and rescuing stray cats in the Mid City neighborhood. Scrim must have been hungry and had been drawn to the smells of fish and anchovies; and he walked into one of the traps that had been set on someone’s porch.

we got him!!! much love to trap DAT Cat!!! more details to come when i can breathe.

Back in December we met Scrim; an adorable little terrier who became a social media star as an escape artist; namely the time he jumped from a second story window of his foster parent’s home in New Orleans.

Six-months prior, Scrim had been rescued from euthanasia by Zeus’ Rescues. No doubt Scrim was quite adorable, and he was adopted, but quickly fled the home and had been on the lam for months; carefully and cleverly eluding capture – that is until October.

Scrim’s not so happy past may have well motivated him to always be on the lookout for an escape path. His rescuers say the little pooch had a really rough time while on the streets. He had been shot at twice, and who could blame him for his poor opinion of humans? Even though rescuers had been trying their best to convince the dog that all humans are not to be disliked or not trusted, Scrim resumed his flight mode.

Scrim was reported to be an incredibly fast runner – clocked at over 20 mph, easily sprinted through the narrow one-way streets. When his name was called, he would run out into the traffic, and people were constantly being cautioned and urged to only track him in safe areas.

For the last two months, Scrim was able to survive a snowstorm and even the crowds of the Super Bowl last Sunday. He had been spotted several times, but there was no denying this little wire-haired Westie terrier earned himself the title of “local legend”.

Amazingly, Scrim passed his veterinarian examination with flying colors, received a well-needed bath. Everyday Scrim had been loose, a group of volunteers searched for him.

According to the rescue’s Facebook page, Scrim is back at Cheramie’s home in Uptown, wearing a GPS collar, and all the the doors and windows in the home are tightly locked.

Time to settle down little guy. You are loved.
