“Right now, I have a carcass of a car,” said the owner.
It went missing on Monday, February 3. Michael parked his 2016 Nissan Altima in front of his home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where neighbors also parallel parked down the narrow lane. After realizing his car went missing, the owner checked his home security footage, where he spotted the thief: A white, unmarked tow truck casually driving off with the sedan.
He got the stolen car back, but it’s not the same
Police found the Altima about five miles away from Michael’s house, situated on the east side of Milwaukee. Someone abandoned the car in a lot north of the home…in a total loss condition.
Whoever “worked” on the stolen car stripped the engine bay completely empty and took the front wheels. “Anything of value seems to be gutted,” the owner reported.
Local residents around the lot where the thieves dumped the Altima said this wasn’t the first time. One resident told WISN News that another car had been left sitting in the same spot for weeks. That same resident was the one who called right away after noticing the Altima that appeared randomly in the neighborhood.
The owner posted the footage on Facebook, and commenters shared their own stories of the white tow truck
“That’s the infamous tow truck that has been taking vehicles to a chop shop,” one asserted, “They’ve been in the news plenty of times.”
“That tow truck stole my Camry in November,” another recounted, “By the library in Cramer St.”
The local police told Michael to final an insurance claim over the damage the stolen car suffered, and that they aren’t tracking vehicle thefts by tow trucks.
