The death of an unidentified man whose body was found floating in Lower Otay Reservoir over the weekend was under investigation Monday.

A fisherman spotted the partially submerged body at about 9:30 a.m. Sunday, according to the San Diego Police Department.

“The … body was extremely decomposed, and at this point, age, race or any other identifying information remain unclear,” SDPD Lt. Jon Dungan said Monday.

The county Medical Examiner’s Office took custody of the remains for autopsy and identification purposes. Police homicide detectives also were investigating the circumstances of the fatality, the lieutenant said.
