Cops find 1,300 lbs of cocaine during truck inspection
It was just another day for the Illinois State Police until a routine truck inspection turned into a massive drug bust. When police officers made contact with the semi-truck driver, they noticed the strong odor of marijuana.
According to Wane, the driver, identified as Gurpreet Singh, admitted to having a vaping device in his rig, prompting a search. They found a vape and a container field with raw marijuana and THC gummies.
Police officers continued searching the tractor-trailer and noticed that the seal between the trailer doors and bill of landing didn’t line up. Upon a closer look, they found 17 totes hidden in a shipment of oranges.
The totes contained 510 packages of a white powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine. The trucker was hiding over 1,300 lbs of cocaine.
Singh admitted to knowing about the drugs. He shared that he was working with another person to transport cocaine from California to Indiana in exchange for money. He was supposed to give the drugs to another driver at the trip stop on i-69 in Warren.
Police followed Singh to the meeting location in New Haven. Then police caught the other driver, identified as Inderjit Singh Dhaliwal.
Singh and Dhaliwal were charged with attempting and conspiring to distribute and possess more than five kilos of a controlled substance, specifically cocaine.
