A Florida software developer is applauding his Cybertruck, even after it drove into a street lamp.
Vehicle owners aren’t typically pleased after a wreck. However, a software developer is grateful to be alive after his Tesla Cybertruck slammed into a curb and then a street light while using its full self-driving (FSD) v13 functions. Not only is he thankful, but he also commends Tesla for the “best passive safety in the world.”

Johnathan Challinger took to X (formerly Twitter) to talk about his recent Cybertruck crash. Challinger says his 6,800-lb EV pickup truck smashed into a curb before hitting a street lamp and stopping in its tracks. However, the Florida software developer wasn’t touching the accelerator or brakes when he crashed the truck.
Instead, he was using Tesla FSD v13.2.4, allowing the truck to flex its self-driving functions. “It failed to merge out of a lane that was ending (there was no one on my left) and made no attempt to slow down or turn until it had already hit the curb,” Challinger said of the wreck. “Big fail on my part, obviously. Don’t make the same mistake I did. Pay attention,” he wrote in his X post as a reminder to stay alert, even while using self-driving functions.
Of course, the internet was less than understanding. “People climb out of small European cars in accidents at 30 mph every day. This guy buys an electric tank that crashes itself and thanks Tesla for the experience,” one snarky commenter responded on X. Another commenter snubbed the Tesla FSD, “I like Tesla but this is kind of inexcusable as the system should recognize the curb, and the light post and react accordingly.”
Still, Challinger responded to the negative commentary with some positivity. “I mean, I’m alive and well and that’s what matters,” he posted in response to a commenter. “The passive safety saved my ass.”
