A jury found a Texas truck driver guilty of murdering a female U.S. Army veteran in Dallas, Texas.
Welcome back to my true crime corner. Today we’re taking a look at a case involving a Texas truck driver and a female army veteran. The victim was last seen entering the driver’s semi-truck, then her body was found eight days later.
Texas truck driver allegedly murders Dallas woman
A Texas truck driver, known as 28-year-old Nasson Hazzard of Austin, was convicted for the alleged kidnapping and death of a 25-year-old Dallas woman. Her name is Caleiga Zangari and she was a U.S. Army veteran from San Diego, California.
According to Justice.gov, surveillance cameras caught the victim, who was a sex worker at the time, entering his semi-truck. This was in Dallas on August 15.
Then police officers found her body in the woods eight days later. She was dumped off Texas Highway 11 in Pittsburg about 100 miles away with a black plastic bag tied around her head. Her phone was shattered by the side of the road.
Cell phone records prove that Hazzard traveled from the pickup location to a nearby parking lot where he stayed for 17 minutes.
Then he drove about three hours to the wooded area off of Highway 11. Hazard called his boss saying he would be sick the next day then completed a load for work.
He returned to the scene the next day with his wife and changed cellphones, deleting his location sharing apps. His wife continuously searched for “Pittsburg Texas News”.
The Dallas Police Department, North Texas Trafficking Task Force, Texas Rangers, FBI, Austin Police Department, and many other agencies assisted with the investigation. It only took about an hour of deliberation for the jury to convict him of a kidnapping resulting in death.
